After the huge success of his first ReCycling Tour, the internationally acclaimed percussionist and handpan pioneer will take the project a step further: in keeping with the motto “From the Alps to the North Sea”, the tour will take them from Innsbruck via Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne to the bike-friendly city of Amsterdam. Along the way, the Grammy-nominated Tyrolean and his band will perform around 20 concerts. At the end of June, after the 1500 kilometres cycling tour, the team will take the overnight train back to Innsbruck. “We want to show that travelling through Europe can easily and comfortably be done by train.” Environmentally friendly alternative to conventional touring Delago had the ReCycling Tour idea after performing internationally alongside various artists such as Björk, Olafur Arnalds and Anoushka Shankar and performing his own projects. “The intense travels by air and bus made me think how I, as a musician, can contribute to climate protection. This gave rise to the idea of developing an environmentally friendly alternative to a conventional concert tour.” All the musical instruments and equipment for the live performances will be transported in specially built bicycle trailers. In addition to that, accumulators for electronics as well as light equipment can be charged on tour using solar panels. Throughout the tour, the ReCycling Tour crew will ensure that sustainable products and materials are being used. They prefer to cooperate with small businesses and local producers when it comes to accommodation and catering. Both the backstage area and the audience at the concerts should avoid single-use plastic and aim for a general low waste policy.
